Lena composes jewels in an exploration of palette, texture and context observing the unexpected friendships that develop according to integral qualities of each component.
The treasures that become her jewels are often simple, raw and found materials that encapsulate the essence of place. Australian and Mexican opals, sculptured North Sea fossils, Herkimer diamonds, Brazilian quartz, Pacific Island shells...Scandinavian vintage markets, Vermont forests and East Asian bazaars are a few of the gentle mines for the gems, fossils and talismans that become the collection.
Often, pieces are the results of collaborations with local sculptors who specialize in the materials of the area.
